Documents shouldn’t be too prescriptive: the intended effect is more important than the actual method for achieving the result.

Documents should define scope (systems, network, software config, deployment guidelines, zone content, …).

Documents should define target audience (authoritative, resolver, TLDs, CDNs, government, …).

Documents should be versioned (ensuring practices are current).
