Objectives
The DNS-OARC community is the place where meaningful discussions around DNS operations take place. The main audience is DNS operators, but also other trades that touch the DNS are part of this community, such as developers, vendors, researchers, and more.
Different actors will have very different operational requirements.
The main goal of DNS-OARC BCP documents is to make it easy for operators to adopt DNS best current practices.
This means that BCP statements should be easy to locate, and are actionable and testable. Operators must be able to rely that BCP documents are up to date.
Many BCP initiatives and documents already exist, and while there are many people part of the DNS-OARC community that are also present in other communities that produce such BCP statements, the DNS-OARC community currently does not have common voice around DNS BCPs.
However, it is explicitly not the goal to compete with existing BCPs that are already providing value to a class and geography of operators. It is possible that documents produced by DNS-OARC overlap with existing BCP documents.
Deliverables
The deliverables of the DNS-OARC BCP initiative are:
An overview of existing BCP statements.
BCP documents for various type of DNS operators.
A channel where creators of BCP documents can ask for review from the DNS-OARC community.
